About Jodhpur
In 1459, Rao Jodha, a Rathore clan leader, created Jodhpur, dubbed “The Blue City.” It is solely named for him. Marwar was the old name for Jodhpur, which is located in Rajasthan, India. Jodhpur is Rajasthan’s second-largest city. There are two components to it: the old city and the new city. The historic city is surrounded by a ten-kilometre-long wall. It also has eight gates that lead out of it. There are numerous tourist places in Jodhpur which is why it is very famous among tourists.
1) Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur
2) Umaid Bhavan Palace, Jodhpur
The Umaid Bhawan Palace is the world’s largest private house. There are 372 rooms, a wood-panelled library, a private museum, an indoor pool, a billiards room, tennis courts, and one-of-a-kind marble squash courts. All of these factors combine to make Umaid Bhawan Palace one of the city’s most stunning monuments.
The palace was built with the intention of employing Jodhpur’s farmers. It was created between 1928 and 1943, under Maharaja Umaid Singh’s reign.
3) Jaswant Thada, Jodhpur
Maharaja Jaswant Singh II’s son, Maharaja Sardar Singh, built a memorial named Jaswant Thada in his honour and remembrance in 1899, which is presently used by the Marwar Royal Family as a cremation site. The exquisite structure is made of intricately carved marble that contrasts sharply with the scarlet steps leading up to the entranceway. The architecture is built of white marbles that are so fine that when exposed to sunlight, the entire building emits a warm glow. At the moment, it houses a collection of paintings and portraits of Jodhpur emperors. The Jaswant Thada in Jodhpur is considered an architectural landmark that should be visited by everyone.
4) Toorji Ka Jhalra, Jhodhpur
Toorji Ka Jhalra is a stepwell in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, that was erected around 1740. This stepwell is approximately 200 feet deep. The royal dynasty of Jodhpur created this stepwell. This stepwell, which is beautifully crafted, exemplifies authentic Indian architecture. This 250-year-old structure was built with Jodhpur’s famed rose-red sandstone. So, if you’re in Jodhpur, pay a visit to this location.
5) Mandore Garden, Jodhpur
Mandore, around 9 kilometres north of Jodhpur’s main city, was originally the capital of the Marwa kingdom. The garden is part of the Mehrangarh Fort, which also includes the famed Hall of Heroes and the Three Hundred Million Gods temple. A Government Museum with artefacts and historical relics is also located on the grounds. Many of the kings who once governed from here have cenotaphs or ‘dewals’ in the Mandore Garden, which has a high rock terrace. Because of their umbrella-like architecture, these cenotaphs are unlike any you’ll find in Rajasthan. They were built using the architecture of a Hindu temple as inspiration. Mandore Garden is a peaceful location that is ideal for a family outing.
