Himachal Pradesh, also known as Devbhoomi is home to many temples and one of the oldest temples dedicated to Lord Shiva is Jatoli Shiv Temple.

Situated at a distance of 8 kilometres from the main city of Solan, Himachal Pradesh this temple is considered as the highest Shiva Temple in Asia because of its height which is 122 feet. This temple’s name is derived from Lord Shiva’s Jata or long hair.

The foundation stone of this temple is laid down by Swami Krishnananda Paramhansa.

The construction of the temple took 39 years to complete and was made in the Southern Dravidian form of architecture. The temple is considered to have three pyramids. On the base of the first one, Lord Ganesha resides, on the second pyramid Shesh Nag resides and on the third pyramid Trishul is placed on both sides. Recently an 11-foot gold urn has been placed at the top of the temple.

Every year a large number of pilgrimages visit and offer prayer at this temple and take blessings of Lord Shiva. And on Mahashivratri a fair is also organised here. There are many stories about this temple, people believe that this is the resting place of Lord Shiva. And that the water in the Jal Kund of this temple is rich in minerals and it is said that it has medicinal properties. Drinking the water from the Jal Kund of this temple can treat many skin problems.

How To Reach

Jatoli Shiv Temple can be reached by road, train and by air. We have discussed all three means in detail below.

1) By Road:

One can easily reach this temple by bus, car or any other vehicle. There are plenty of buses and taxis to Solan. The temple is just 8 km away from Solan.

2) By Train:

The nearest railway station to get a train to Solan is Kalka Railway Station which is 43 km from Solan.

There are two train options that are available. Both trains run from Kalka Railway Station. One is, KLK SML EXP, which runs on all days. The time of departure of this train is 3:45 am and the time of arrival at Solan Railway Station is 6:22 am. So, it took around 2 hrs 37 mins to reach Solan.

The second is KLK SML EXP, which also runs on all days. The time of departure of this train is 6:20 am and the time of arrival is 8:42 am. So, it took 2 hrs 22 mins to reach Solan.

3) By Air:

The nearest Airport is Chandigarh International Airport, which is around 70 km from Solan. One can easily find a bus or cab from there.
